HAOT
Investor brief · 2026

The marketplace for
in-person plans.

One in six people globally report feeling lonely. Every platform built to address it either treats loneliness as a romance problem or treats friendship as a feed to scroll. HAOT is the first social-intent marketplace built for friendship, with a trust system that compounds on attendance, an architecture that prevents misuse by design, and a format library validated in real life before it shipped.

Timing thesis

Why now.

The institutional recognition arrived in the last 24 months. The World Health Organization Commission on Social Connection published its global report in June 2025. The U.S. Surgeon General issued the federal advisory in 2023. Eight countries have now adopted formal national policies on social connection. The problem is named. The funding will follow.

The infrastructure layer is finally ready. Real-time geospatial matching, payments routing, identity verification, and moderation tooling are commodity in 2026. A team of three can ship what would have required twenty in 2018. The unit economics of a social-intent marketplace work at a scale that was not viable a product cycle ago.

The category is empty. Airbnb solved lodging with UGC plus trust. Eventbrite solved ticketing. Bumble BFF proves intent exists but ships dating-app architecture against a friendship problem. The intersection of UGC, trust, friendship-first, and activity-first is open. We are the first team building inside it.

The market

The market.

In June 2025, the World Health Organization Commission on Social Connection released the most detailed global report ever published on loneliness. The headline finding: one in six people globally experience loneliness, and it is associated with approximately 871,000 deaths every year.1

The U.S. Surgeon General's 2023 advisory found that approximately half of American adults experience loneliness, and that the mortality risk of being socially disconnected is comparable to smoking up to fifteen cigarettes a day.2

The economic cost is measurable. Stress-related absenteeism attributed to loneliness costs U.S. employers an estimated $154 billion annually. Social isolation among older adults alone accounts for an estimated $6.7 billion in excess Medicare spending each year.2

Eight national governments have now formally adopted policies on social connection: Denmark, Germany, Japan, Finland, the Netherlands, Sweden, the United Kingdom, and the United States. The institutional recognition is there. The product layer is missing.1

The adjacent UGC marketplaces only solve fragments of the problem:

  • Airbnb ($80B+ market cap)
UGC + trust, but for lodging, not connection.
  • Eventbrite ($1B+ market cap)
UGC + ticketing, but transactional. No social layer.
  • Meetup (~$100M acquisition then abandonment)
UGC + social, but unloved product. No trust system.
  • Bumble BFF ($0 standalone, bundled into a dating app)
    Proves the intent. Wrong UX.

The intersection of UGC + trust + social-but-not-romantic + activity-first is empty. HAOT lives there.

The category

Social-intent marketplaces.

Every other platform treats showing up as a side effect of something else. Dating, ticketing, group chat. HAOT treats showing up as the entire product.

Five rules of anti-dating architecture. A five-tier Trust Mesh. Vibe match by energy, not zip code. A Bond Graph that retains relationships across events. None of these exist anywhere as a coherent system.

The category is real. The words for it just haven't existed yet.

Marketplace dynamics

Two-sided. Mostly the same people.

Hosts and guests are the same population.

A guest who shows up reliably becomes a host. The trust score earned as a guest carries into hosting. Single liquidity pool, double the lifetime value.

Network effects compound per metro.

Density compounds within a city before it crosses city lines. We don't need every city at once. We need the first to densify, then the playbook ports.

Trust travels.

Reputation is global. A user's Trust Mesh tier is portable across cities. Show up reliably anywhere and your status comes with you. The graph compounds across geographies.

Take rate.

Platform fee on paid activities. Premium subscription for unlimited hosting and advanced filters. Eventual partner revenue from venues, instructors, and sponsored seeding. The pricing is set. The full breakdown is in the deck.

Cold start

Architecture before scale.

Most consumer marketplaces ship to validate. We are doing the opposite. The architecture that makes HAOT not a dating app is built before the cold start: a five-tier Trust Mesh, vibe match by energy, a format library of five tested social formats, a Bond Graph for relationship retention, and four safety surfaces. The discipline ships on day one.

The cold-start advantage is the format library plus the trust layer. A new host in any city does not start from a blank page. They pick from formats designed for repeatability and inherit a trust system that travels with attendance. The format library covers everything from a small-group cookout to a Wednesday literature reading at a bookshop, with templates hosts can adapt or replace entirely.

We have not yet shipped to users. The architectural foundation is what we tested in Chicago during 2024 and 2025: 200 plus events across five formats, real attendance data, real ratings data, real no-show patterns. The product layer wraps that body of evidence with the apps, the marketplace, and the trust automation.

We are not opening cities one by one. The app is global from day one. The first metros to densify will tell us where to seed next.

Where we are

Pre-launch. Architecturally complete.

HAOT is in late development pre-launch. The architectural specification is complete. The Chicago Phase 0 evidence base underwrites the format library and the trust mechanics. The pre-seed round funds the work that converts an architectural thesis into a shipping product: the iOS and Android apps to general availability, sponsored seeding in priority metros, the host onboarding pipeline, and the Trust Mesh moderation infrastructure.

What will turn this from a thesis into a measured business is the next nine to twelve months of operation. Cold-start conversion in seeded metros, Trust Mesh tier velocity, host conversion rate, mutual-yes match rate, Bond Graph density at 90 days. We will publish the results as they come in.

Founder

Edd Clandestino, founder.

Edd grew up in Puerto Rico and studied entrepreneurship with a minor in event production and marketing at Universidad del Sagrado Corazón, where he first started paying attention to the gap HAOT exists to close. Friends would skip the indie bands they wanted to see, the gallery openings they wanted to walk through, the late literature nights and small concerts, because nobody else's schedule lined up. The thing to do was already there. The people to do it with were the hard part.

After graduating in 2020 he spent years inside the music industry, working with labels in Latin urban, house, and techno, and traveling on tours with DJs and artists. Weeks in cities he did not know. Hotel lobbies as the default social option. He noticed the same pattern everywhere he went, in every city, in every demographic. Plenty to do, almost nobody doing it together unless they already knew each other.

HAOT is the company built around that observation. It is a standalone business, independently capitalized and operated. Edd is also founder and CEO of Clandestino Entertainment Group, a separate music company. The two share no capital, no operations, and no balance sheet. CEG is unrelated context.

Hiring post-round: two engineers, one community lead.

Capital

Pre-seed.

Pre-seed is open. The round funds four things over the next twelve months. Shipping the iOS and Android apps to general availability. Running sponsored seeding in a small set of high-priority metros to push organic supply density past threshold. Building the host onboarding pipeline and Trust Mesh moderation infrastructure to scale beyond the founding team. Adding two engineers and one community lead.

The thesis we are asking you to underwrite is whether the social-intent category is real, and whether this is the team to capture it. The deck has the full plan.
